As a scholarship organization, the Coleman A. Young Foundation (CAYF) understands the central role Detroit's educators play in the future of the city.

CAYF also understands the importance of honoring the exceptional work being done by Detroit educators to prepare and motivate students to achieve.

This year CAYF will present the third annual Detroit Educator of the Year Award at its annual banquet.

We invite individuals and groups in our community to nominate individuals for this award.

The nominee must be a current principal, teacher or counselor from a middle or high school in the city of Detroit. This individual should be known for bringing out the best in his or her students and for going beyond the call of duty to help students understand and realize their potential despite whatever obstacles and challenges those students may face.

Detroit Educator of the Year Award

"Those of us who are passing off the scene, like Nelson Mandela, like me, like Martin, who are already gone, we are passing on to you who are coming on the scene, the torch. You should be thrilled with the opportunity that you have to complete the revolution." -Mayor Coleman Alexander Young

To nominate an individual for the Detroit Educator of the Year Award, please download the nomination form (pdf), fill it out and then send it to the CAYF offices.

Nomination forms must be received by Friday April 4, 2008.
