Detroit Educator of the Year Award

"Those of us who are passing off the scene, like Nelson Mandela, like me, like Martin, who are already gone, we are passing on to you who are coming on the scene, the torch. You should be thrilled with the opportunity that you have to complete the revolution." -Mayor Coleman Alexander Young

As a scholarship organization, the Coleman A. Young Foundation (CAYF) understands the central role Detroit’s educators play in the future of our city and wishes to recognize and honor the exceptional work done by Detroit educators to prepare and motivate students for higher achievement.

In establishing the Detroit Educator of the Year Award, CAYF acknowledges an educator who exemplifies the leadership characteristics and spirit of the late Mayor Coleman A.
