The Skillman Foundation Legacy Scholars

The Skillman Foundation, in partnership with the Coleman A. Young Foundation, are awarding scholarships for up to $10,000 each to promising Detroit youth.

In honor of Skillman’s 50th Anniversary, the Foundation announced the 50 Promising Youth Legacy Awards in 2011. The program was expanded by awarding 10 additional scholarships to 10 promising Detroit youth in 2012, 2013 & 2014 and awarding 6 additional scholarships to 6 promising Detroit youth in 2015.

The 2015 awards (1) recognized young people as emerging leaders and as contributors to making a difference in their community, (2) ensured that Detroit and Southeastern Michigan youth attend and graduate from college, and (3) encouraged young leaders to return, serve and contribute to the revitalization of Detroit and the state of Michigan.

Youth resided in a Skillman Good Neighborhood: Brightmoor, Cody Rouge, Osborn, Chadsey Condon, Northend Central Woodward, and Southwest Detroit

To be eligible for the Promising Youth Legacy Awards, youth had to be nominated by a nonprofit, community-based, faith-based, social service, or school organization.
