Our mission is to develop leadership among Detroit's youth through college scholarships, mentoring and other supports for personal growth and development.

Through the diversification of our programs, we've developed some amazing partnerships that have helped ensure our success and enhance the foundation's long-term sustainability.

CAYF Scholars

The core program of the Coleman Young Foundation (CAYF) is the Scholars Program that:

Skillman Legacy Scholars

The Skillman Foundation, in partnership with the Coleman A. Young Foundation, awarded scholarships for up to $10,000 each to  promising Detroit youth.​

REAL Skills 2.0 (RS2)

The REAL Skills 2.0 program provides a curriculum led by CAYF staff, scholars, alumni and other professional volunteers who prepare teenage youth for college and life.

CAYF is a 501 (c) (3) charitable organization established in 1982 to provide financial support and mentor young Detroiters who seek a college education. CAYF has provided over 450 college scholarships to eligible students from Detroit schools, of all backgrounds.

 Acceptance and participation in our scholarship and after school program are the same for everyone without regard to religion, race, color, national origin, age, sex, handicap or sexual preference.​
